Heather and Erin – SitterNote’s Co-Founders

Heather is a technology attorney with more than 15 years of experience in private practice and in-house handling software, intellectual property and corporate matters. Heather has three children — one daughter (age 13) and two sons (ages 11 and 6). She has a B.A. in Political Science from UCLA (Go Bruins!) and a JD from The Georgetown University Law Center. Heather is also a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US).

Erin is a technology and digital media attorney with 14+ years’ experience in private practice and in-house, including 8 years handling software, hardware, and digital content matters for The Walt Disney Company. She has a B.S. in business administration from the USC Marshall School of Business, and a J.D. from the USC Gould School of Law (Fight On!). Erin has a one son and two daughters.

Damian – SitterNote’s Developer

Damian is SitterNote’s developer. In addition, Damian is an aerospace engineer by trade, a lecturer at UCLA, a husband, and a father to three children – ages 9, 4 and 2. Because of his hectic schedule and first-hand knowledge of having to spend hours away from home, Damian was inspired to help create an app that would help keep parents connected to their “peeps”. Prior to working with the SitterNote team, Damian successfully released a personal finance app, Budget Boss.

Our Story

We built SitterNote to solve a key issue for busy parents. When someone else is taking care of our kids, we need it to be easier to communicate, coordinate and stay informed. Heather and Erin spent most of their legal careers helping companies build websites and mobile apps. And with 5 children between them, they also know a thing or two about juggling work and family. One particular weekend, Heather needed a sitter… After sending out overlapping texts, juggling calendars, and scrawling out an emergency contact list, Heather and Erin agreed that there had to be a better way. They sketched out the idea and enlisted Damian to help build it. The result is SitterNote – a mobile app for busy families and their caregivers. Check in on your little chicks.

Heather Joyce and Erin Matzkin, hard-working technology attorneys who also happen to be moms with a total of five kids between them, spent many years helping companies build websites and apps, but were frustrated that there was not a decent application that addressed their own needs when it came to balancing their work and family lives. So they decided to build one themselves. Today, they’re introducing “CluckCluck”.

Created by two smart technology attorneys – Heather Joyce and Erin Matzkin, both moms, naturally – CluckCluck offers a simple and organized method of booking sitters. Using the app, you can easily invite multiple sitters to the same event at once, and then book the sitter you prefer (yes, the sitter needs to have the app as well). If the app only offered this, it would already be pretty amazing, but it actually goes further.

This app is genius. One of the biggest challenges with going out without children is the logistics of coordinating what sitter is going to care for your children. With the CluckCluck app, you can easily ask all of your favorite sitters if they are available, book the one you want, get updates while you are gone (is baby asleep yet?!) and pay the sitter through your phone. Life just got a lot easier with this app if you need to coordinate with caregivers.

The app I’m talking about here though is called CluckCluck (which comes from the tag line “check in on your little chicks” which I think is just about the cutest thing ever!). It allows you to set up an event, poll multiple caregivers for their ability, send messages to your caregiver while you’re out, and…best of all…pay from your phone!

CluckCluck strives to make managing any childcare situation a breeze. It lets you send an invitation to all of your go-to sitters at once (no more texting your entire roster). When your babysitter is on the clock, she can then access profiles you’ve created and saved for each of your children and send one-touch updates on ‘tasks’ like feedings and naps so you can keep tabs about what’s going on at home.

Our company started one morning on Heather’s back porch, as we drank steaming mugs of coffee and commiserated about how hard it can be to leave the kids with a babysitter (assuming you manage to successfully book that babysitter in the first place after going through the Herculean task of texting everyone you know to see who’s available).
